The following questions are designed to focus your thinking on section B of the G322 paper: Institutions and Audiences. If you can answer the following questions with reference to the MAGAZINE INDUSTRY you should be able to tackle any question that is set in the summer examination.

Note: There is nothing to stop you bringing in comparative examples from FILM, MUSIC INDUSTRY, NEWSPAPERS, RADIO to support your essay on the magazine industry. However, there should be a sense of a single focus in the body of your answer.

  2. CCM Magazine, has gone completely online since the start of 2010 which is showing that there is less demand for paper copies of magazines.

    - recent decrease in sales of traditional print editions of magazines ever since the release of the 'tablet' computers.
    - iPhone. Sales for print editions of magazines have dropped. -
    - magazines are losing money because their articles are posted all over the internet
    - Magazine companies are now thinking about releasing things such as iPhone apps, for customers at any time at a low price.

    2. Explain why NME.com is an excellent example of cross media convergence.
    - magazines
    - sponsoring television programmes
    - sponsoring music events
    - covering music event through their own television programmes
    - apps on the iPhone
    - internet access through website to magazines and information.

    4. How does your own experience of consuming media products reflect changing patterns of media consumption?

    I like to keep up with trends and will often change media products to the next best thing. This is also apparent in the world behind the media.

  4. 4. Through my own experience i would say that in the case of NME the reason for the changing pattern of sales is the increasingly bad writing and content.

    2. You don't have to read the writer's rubbish when you are on the website or watching NMETV,
    You can have it on demand,
    You can have it anywhere,
    On the website you can chose what you want to look at.
